NEWS

  • In November 2005, I moved to the University of Technology in Darmstadt. I am research manager of the core research program "E-Learning" there.
  • I am project leader and principal investigator for "Semantisches Information Retrieval", a project funded by the German Research Counsil (DFG). The project will be affiliated with Department of Telecooperation at the University of Technology in Darmstadt.
  • This web page is no longer properly maintained. Please refer to my new homepage here.

WORK INFORMATION

  • At EML Research, I worked in the Natural Language Processing group. My main focus of research is lexical semantic processing of discourse and the application of lexical semantics to NLP tasks, such as e.g. information retrieval, summarization, and recognition of opinions (emotions) in texts.
  • Also, I am affiliated with School of Information Technology at the International University in Bruchsal, Germany. I supervise interns at EML Research, a number of student projects and graduate students.
  • I am a member of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), of ACL's and ISCA's Special Interest Group for Discourse and Dialogue (SIGdial), and of Special Interest Group on Computational Semantics (SIGSEM).
  • My most recent research is about computing semantic relatedness of words based on GermaNet, a lexical-semantic net for the German language. We developed a Java-based API for GermaNet as a part of this project. You can find more information about this here
  • Research interests: computational lexical semantics, information retrieval and summarization, discourse and dialogue processing, dialogue systems. My new research interest: applications of NLP in E-Learning!
  • If you are a student of computer science or computational linguistics interested to work together with me at the University of Technology in Darmstadt, please let me know via Email.
