EML Research was established in 2003 by Dr. h.c. Klaus Tschira. It is an "offspring" of European Media Laboratory GmbH, in that all research activities in the areas of basic research were transferred to the newly founded, non-profit EML Research gGmbH. European Media Laboratory GmbH continues its work in application-oriented research and technology transfer.
Klaus Tschira, one of the founders of SAP AG and presently member of its supervisory board, has previously, in 1995, established the Klaus Tschira Foundation (KTF), a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of scientific research and international scientific exchange.
At present, most of the work done at EML Research is funded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.

The institute is engaged in numerous projects funded, amongst others, by the European Union, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and by various companies. |
